Mars, a black, tan and white saluki lurcher, lying on a rug in front of a big cuddly caterpillar toy, looking at the camera

Fast legs. Soft heart. He's just waiting for his hoomiethe person an animal shares a life with. Don't buy me. Adopt me. I'm ready to give someone my whole life.

Mars is a saluki lurcher with plenty of saluki still in him: independent, sensitive and happiest doing things his own way. He suits someone who knows sighthounds and enjoys their quirks.

Indoors he's a snoozer who'll happily curl up on the sofa, and soft toys are just something to nudge aside. Outside, anything that moves catches his eye and he loves a chase, though he won't bring it back. Like many salukis he isn't reliable at coming back when called, so he's safest on the lead, with a secure field for off-lead zoomies.

Mars is still learning his manners. He greets people by jumping up, and his claws can catch a face, so his carers are working on it. He can also be protective of his food, so he'll be happiest in a calm home without children, or elderly or infirm people.

He was handed over to the rescue by his previous owners and has been waiting since May. He finds being left alone hard and can get noisy, and prefers strange dogs not to rush up to him on the lead.

Mars needs adults with real sighthound experience who are home most of the day, a secure garden, and no children or other pets.
