Rescue animals, looking for their human.

Privacy

This page explains what we do with your details.

Questions, or want your data deleted, email rescue [at] hoomies.org. Hoomies is a small volunteer project and doesn't have a legal entity yet, so that address is how you reach the person responsible.

What we collect

When you enquire about an animal, we collect the email address or phone number you give us, and your message if you write one. If you message us on WhatsApp or by email, we have that conversation too.

If you accept cookies, we use Google's tag (Google Ads and Google Analytics) to see how people find us and how many go on to get in touch: which links and ads bring people here, how many enquiries an animal gets, and where people give up. It tells us what is working and helps us get better at rehoming. Part of that is the click ID Google adds to the web address you arrive on. If you don't accept, nothing is stored on your device and nothing is used to recognise you. We also load fonts from Google, which means Google sees your IP address, and our host Netlify keeps standard server logs.

Some dogs' pages have a "Petition the pound" button. It opens a message in your own email app, addressed to the pound, with Hoomies in Bcc. Nothing is sent from our website. If you send it, we receive a copy: your name, your email address, what you wrote and when. The pound receives the same message, so it also sees your name and email address.

What we do with it

We use your contact details to reply to you about the animal you asked about, and nothing else. We don't send newsletters, and we don't sell or rent your details to anyone.

We use the copies of petition emails to count how many people have written about each dog and to keep a record of what was sent to the pound. We don't publish your name or email address, and we don't contact you about anything else.

If things progress, we'll introduce you to the animal's current owner or carer, because they're the person you need to talk to. We ask you first, and we only pass your details on once you've agreed.

Who else sees it

Our suppliers, in the course of doing their job for us: Netlify (this website and the enquiry form), Google (our email, our advertising and our website analytics), and Meta (if you contact us on WhatsApp). Some of them store data outside the UK, including in the United States. If you send a petition, the pound you wrote to sees it too, because you addressed it to them.

How long we keep it

Until you ask us to delete it. We stay in touch with the people who adopt, so we don't set an automatic deletion date, but one email and your details are gone. That includes the copies of petition emails.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Email us and we'll sort it out. If we let you down, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
